Upbeat Communities is a charity that supports refugees and asylum seekers in Derby by offering free English classes to break down language barriers, community lunches to build friendships, specialised support for women, and wellbeing activities.
These funds will not only allow us to offer a warm welcome to refugees and asylum seekers in Derby at our Integration Hub, but we will also be able to offer practical support such as English classes, wellbeing activities and community lunches for roughly 3 weeks.
"Upbeat Communities is more than an organisation that supports refugees and asylum seekers in Derby – for many, it is a second home. I have seen friendships form, confidence grow, and cultures come together in our Integration Hub. Whether it's practical support through English classes, like this grant would help us provide, or a simple “How are you?” from a volunteer, a sense of community is created and shared every day. It it always a privilege to watch someone seeking sanctuary be able to rebuild their life for themselves or their family with the support of Upbeat."
