Darlington and District Hospice Movement

Registered charity number: 518394
St Teresa’s Hospice offers palliative and end of life care and support to people with life-limiting illness, and to their families or carers. Our aim is to provide the best possible care for those who need it. The focus of our work is entirely on enhancing the quality of life and helping people live with their illness, as comfortably as possible. We do that through a range of Hospice Services.

What our donation will help fund

St Teresa’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, lung disease and heart failure, as well as care and support for people with neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease, MS and MND. We provide all our core services free of charge and supported over 1,100 people last year.

We aim to enhance quality of life, promote personal choice and enable people to live as well as possible until the end of their life. Through a wide range of services, we work with people to help manage pain, fatigue and other symptoms including psychological distress. We also offer practical and emotional support to our patients and those close to them including children and young people.

We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It costs over £10,000 a day to run all our services, with most of our funds (around 75%) coming from fundraising, legacy giving and our retail shops, which have all been adversely affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

The £5,000 awarded by the Benefact Group is a much-valued contribution towards our core service delivery and our staff, volunteers, Trustees and patients are incredibly grateful.

Over the past year, with support like yours, we have been able to care for nearly 1,200 people across our community. Behind every one of those moments of care and support is the commitment of staff and volunteers, whether in our shops and warehouse, out and about fundraising, welcoming people on reception, on our Board, supporting our non-clinical teams or working alongside our clinical services. Across every part of the hospice, gifts like this one, make a real and lasting difference. The impact of your contribution is clear: • 100% of our service users would recommend our hospice to their friends and family • 97% of patients achieved their preferred place of care These outcomes simply would not be possible without your support.
