We will use this amazing donation to support some brilliant trips and activities for our members - young people of mixed abilities from Swansea and the surrounding areas. It will allow us to jump on a coach (one of our favourite things) and explore a little further afield - perhaps a ride on the Brecon Steam Train, or to Folly Farm, or Techniquest.
Our members love new opportunities, or to re-visit favourite places, and to do this with friends. They tell us that is increases their confidence, provides them with more independence, means they get to try new things and most of all - to have a lot of fun. There is usually singing and food involved at some point too.
Mixtup is a beneficiary led, accessible youth club for young people of mixed abilities from Swansea and the surrounding areas. We currently have around 70 members.
We provide regular accessible youth clubs, wellbeing sessions, a film club, have a table-top roleplaying group, lots of trips, workshops with other organisations, individual support and signposting, and more. Members tell us that one of the most important things about Mixtup is that they can just 'be myself.'
We aim to improve the situation of disabled young people, for example by making sure that they are able to try new activities, have more fun, reduced social isolation, increased confidence and self esteem, greater independence , increased opportunities and routes for progression and more awareness of their rights.
One of the things that our members really - really - love is going on trips, and this is how we'd like to use this grant; it's something that we can't always afford to do otherwise and provide so many of the positive outcomes that we always hope our members to achieve - we continue to hear stories and fond memories from these excursions for years after they have taken place.
