The Underheugh Ark is a small animal charity based on the west coast of Scotland. The rescue helps many different kinds of animals with our main focus being dogs, cats and hens but have wide variety of animals with us such as rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, horses, pigs, terrapins, budgies, cockatails and turkeys!
We have had a long winter with the weather not being in our favour and your donation of £1000 will be used to pay our outstanding hay and straw bill. We have 22 equines in our care who are turned out during the day and are stabled at night. We have recently bought 120 bales of straw and 12 large hay bales and your help with the paying of this is very much appreciated. We have only small groups in our fields so the ground stays as good as possible over the winter and being on the west coast of Scotland it is very wet and the fields can get muddy with little grass. We have to supplement the lack of grass with hay and concentrated feeds so our equines stay in good health and carry the correct weight. Our equines range from a new addition, a 6 month old foal who had severe trauma to his head which will result in him losing his eye, to a 30 year old ex school pony who was passed from pillar to post after he could no longer work and was a terrified soul when he came to us. Your donation will help all these horses , ponies and donkeys and we are very grateful to you.
The grant we have received from The Benefact Group has come at a time where we very much needed support as we have had a vet bill of £10,000 to pay and this has left us concerned about our running costs. This grant will take pressure off us by paying for this months hay and straw for our 22 equines and we are very humbled and grateful to have received it.
