Woodchester Mansion Trust Limited

Registered charity number: 900315
The Woodchester Mansion Trust ensures the survival of the unique unfinished Grade I listed Gothic Revival Mansion of international significance for the whole community, by promoting conservation of the building, so visitors can learn how it was constructed, training young people in heritage skills, especially stone masonry, and care of the rare endangered horseshoe bats that breed in the attics.

What our donation will help fund

As part of our conservation programme, we are currently repairing the leaky roof of the drawing room bay window. In heavy rain the gutters overflow and water floods in, damaging the stonework. The drawing room is the main room for events at the Mansion, which range widely; formal meetings, both words and music, student teaching from primary to tertiary and CPD, social events, fundraisers, children's activities and yoga classes. It is used by nearly all our visitors. It needs to be in good condition! We are fortunate to have received a legacy to cover part of the £45,000 repair cost, and the Benefact Group grant will be added to our own funds for the remainder. The work is going well, the gutters have been repaired, rotten wood replaced and we are awaiting the new roofing.

"We are extremely grateful to Benefact Group for this award. Every contribution, whatever its size, makes a real difference to our work. This funding will help us continue caring for Woodchester Mansion, allowing visitors to enjoy its unique atmosphere while supporting the ongoing conservation of this extraordinary building."
