The Outward Bound Trust

Registered charity number: 1128090
The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity inspiring over 25,000 young people every year to realise their potential through learning, challenge and discovery in the outdoors. 85% of the young people Outward Bound work with require funding to afford such an opportunity.

What our donation will help fund

The Benefact Group's generous donation will support Outward Bound to expand our partnership with schools from the Harris Federation, an education charity who serve working class and disadvantaged young people throughout London and Essex. These academies are pioneers of social mobility. Outward Bound will now be able to take more of their young people on our outdoor adventure programmes, teaching them the most important lesson they will ever learn: to believe in themselves. All Harris schools serve communities of high deprivation. At a time when UK youth are increasingly isolated, lost, and anxious, this funding will enable more young people to grow in confidence, resilience, and determination. An essential part of our process is our impressive outdoor locations. These are places which thousands of young people from inner cities may otherwise never have the opportunity to see. With the help of the Benefact Group, Outward Bound can break down the financial barriers they face to having a transformational outdoor experience. The impact of this experience will be to show these young people that there are horizons beyond those they had ever thought possible.

The Outward Bound Trust was founded in 1941 on the premise that adventure is vital for teaching young people the most important lesson they can ever learn: that they are stronger than they think, and there is more in them than they know. Thanks to the Benefact Group’s generous grant, Outward Bound can expand our work inspiring more young people from inner cities to discover their potential. This donation will not only give young people the experience of outdoor adventure, but will help level the playing field of opportunity; it will give them lasting skills to carry into education, work and life.
