Nottingham Women's Centre was established in 1971 and is one of the oldest Women’s Centres run by women for women in the UK. The Centre provides holistic wrap around support for women, from case work support to tackle issues in women’s lives to helping women to be heard on the issues they face and our supportive counselling and activities where women can make friends or take up a volunteering.
1 in 5 women experience mental health issues and younger women are at greater risk of self-harm. Women’s experiences of trauma, domestic abuse and sexual violence are directly linked to mental ill health – 90% of our clients have experienced trauma. Poverty and hardship also contributes to mental ill-health. Yet those on low incomes can only access short-term NHS CBT, which many clients find ineffective. RENEW is addressing the dual challenge of high demand and limited availability of support.
These funds will help us to fund life-changing counselling at Nottingham Women’s Centre through our Renew therapy service. Access to therapy should not depend on your financial circumstances - your support will provide specialist, trauma-informed mental health services to women experiencing hardship in Nottingham.
We are very grateful to receive £1000 from the Benefact Group at Nottingham Women's Centre. These funds will help towards our vital work with women within our therapy and RENEW programme. Our therapeutic services continue to provide vital mental health support to women across Nottinghamshire, meeting a wide range of needs through a holistic, accessible approach. Over the past year we have provided therapeutic services to 291 women through our counselling, domestic abuse service, community language enabled therapy and severe and multiple disadvantage service.
