Cumbernauld Poverty Action (SCIO)

Registered charity number: SC051570
Providing advice, support, guidance and training to people in our local community who are affected by poverty and/or disability.

What our donation will help fund

The donation will be used to enable us to provide benefit checks for local people to ensure that their income is fully maximised. This is extremely important due to the number of people and families who are struggling financially due to the increased cost of living.

Our recent Cost of Living survey told us that people in our local community are living day to day and struggle to afford to buy healthy food, pay for their fuel bills and are unable to afford out of school activities for their children. They also tell us that, if they had a crisis (eg washing machine breaking down), they would struggle to manage.

In the year 2024-2025 Cumbernauld Poverty Action's income maximisation service generated £682,000 in Social Security benefits income for local people who were struggling to cope due to poverty and/or disability. Some of our client’s incomes were increased by over £100 per week. Having a decent income has meant that they are able to buy healthy food without relying on local food banks. Our energy advice has helped them to reduce their fuel costs. They have been able to afford out of school activities to help keep their children fit and enable them to learn and develop new skills and improve their confidence.
