Stirling School of English SCIO

Registered charity number: SC051748
The Stirling School of English SCIO is a voluntary organisation that aims to provide low-cost English language tuition to all whose first language is not English, regardless of ability, ethnicity and political or religious beliefs.

What our donation will help fund

The donation will be used to purchase literacy materials, provide training for our volunteer tutors, and acquire an efficient photocopier. It will support us in training some of our volunteer tutors to teach literacy skills to adult ESOL learners. We will partner with Citizen Literacy, who will train our tutors in using their resources.

Our aim is to help 15–20 adult learners per year improve their literacy skills, enabling them to progress to other classes, whether in college or within our school. The conflicts in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Syria have led to an increase in the refugee population in the Stirling area. Many of these refugees are illiterate in English and/or their own language and need English language skills to access further education or employment.

The photocopier will allow us to produce additional materials for our learners and support other related projects. It will also save us time and money currently spent on outsourcing printed materials.

Thanks to the generous support of the Benefact Group and the Movement for Good Awards, we can enhance our tutoring and tutor training in literacy skills, making education more accessible to those facing illiteracy in our communities.
