Crantock Rowing Club

A community club bringing the heritage sport of gig rowing back to Crantock after 50 years. We regularly row on the Gannel river and out into Crantock Bay when we can get through the surf. We are proud to be an inclusive and open club with a diverse range of members – competitive & social –and have regular social events. In a village of around 900 people, we are proud to have nearly 100 member

What our donation will help fund

The donation will help us to build an enclosure for our gigs on Crantock Beach. Previous to this, we had to rely on 2 volunteers to tow the gig through the village whenever we wanted to get out on the water. Not only was this a bit of a logistical nightmare but also a safety concern during the Summer months when our village welcomes many tourists. With the gigs now securely stored on the beach all year round, our rowers can get out without too much effort and row whenever the tides are right.

Crantock Rowing Club has only been running for 2 years but the positive impact it has had on village life, cannot be overstated. It is just amazing to see so many residents involved whether rowing (young and old), attending social events and fundraisers or cheering our crews on in competitions. We are creating a real community buzz and spirit and long may it last. The funding from Benefact Group has helped us become more resilient through the creation of a gig store on the beach. This means our members - young and old - can get out and row whenever the tides are right.
