Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide

Registered charity number: 1148254
Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide works to ensure safe, affordable anaesthesia is available for patients in poor countries so they can receive the treatment they need, saving lives and preventing disability.

What our donation will help fund

Imagine needing an operation without anaesthesia. This is the reality for most patients in poor countries. Without anaesthesia, surgery is often impossible and patients die or suffer disability as a result. This donation will be used to send vital equipment to a hospital that lacks the resources to provide anaesthesia for every patient in need. We supply a simple, portable anaesthesia machine that will function in the most basic conditions, without electricity or compressed gases. It is a lifesaving machine that enables the delivery of safe, affordable anaesthesia in low-resourced hospitals. It can also be used in field hospitals and in emergency response to natural disasters and conflicts. Each machine will be used hundreds, if not thousands of times, for essential surgical procedures to treat women with problems in labour, children with birth abnormalities, hernias, tumours, serious injuries, burns and more.

Anaesthesia is not a luxury - it is fundamental to safe surgery for many life-threatening and disabling conditions. Having taught extensively in the developing world and seen the hospital conditions at first hand, I know that the provision of an appropriate anaesthetic machine and training will relieve suffering on a massive scale.
