The CRT promotes nature-friendly farming to help reverse the biodiversity decline and combat climate change. We believe nature is integral to good farming and we protect, promote and regenerate our land and all life on it. We put our philosophy into practice on over 2,000 acres of working farms, small-holdings and woodland across England.
Every penny donated to the CRT is vital and is used for conservation activities. This incredible donation will go towards the conservation of native and migratory species, creating learning opportunities for all ages and helping rural livelihoods.
We work in collaboration with our tenant farmers to enable them to use nature-friendly farming methods on our land. Our staff support them with guidance and resources and CRT volunteers help to improve wildlife habitats by carrying out conservation projects.
Our current nature appeals support some of our big plans taking place on our sites, from extra food for birds over winter to volunteer equipment, each one plays a vital role in the regeneration of the countryside.
The charity takes a holistic view of why the countryside matters. Wildlife, food production, employment and the rural economy are all essential parts of life in the countryside. Our farms and properties use a mix of traditional and innovative methods, so wildlife is given a home. We are also constantly innovating conservation, alongside practical farming and land management, spreading our aims through example, thought leadership and education. Across our properties, we rely on our volunteers, who are active on many of our farms, and between them, hold a huge amount of knowledge. We couldn’t do it without them.
We also rely on our Friends, who sign up to support the charity, as well as donations, such as this one from the Benefact Group. This grant will make a significance difference to the charity and enable us to carry out vital conservation work, whether that’s planting wildflower to sow a meadow at Bere Marsh Farm in Dorset, securing the future of water voles in Cambridgeshire or creating habitats for wading birds.
