YPWD supports people living with a diagnosis of young onset dementia and their families by running age-appropriate activities, providing support groups and education & training. The charity provides a safe and fun environment, reducing loneliness, boosting mood and offering a helping hand to not just the person with dementia, but their loved ones who are coming to terms with their illness.
We will use this donation towards our activity-based workshops in Berkshire, Surrey Heath, North East Hampshire and Farnham. Our main service is to provide activity-based workshops for people living with young onset dementia throughout the working week so that nobody feels isolated or alone. Examples of the age-appropriate activities we’ve delivered have included archery, cooking, climbing, equine therapy, and katakanuing. Our specialist team of support workers ensure there is a safe, fun and educational environment at each session, improving self-esteem, mood and cognition for participants.
£1,000 allows us to run 14 activity-based workshops across 6 weeks across our different locations.
Younger People with Dementia (YPWD) relies on donations and grants to continue providing our support services for families affected by dementia from as young as the age of 30. Nationally there are estimated to be at least 70,800 younger people with dementia, with many lacking a diagnosis or the support they need. With us being one of the only services dedicated to younger people affected by dementia in this region, the demand for our services continues to grow and from working as a Support Worker for the charity previously, I know the real difference our services make to the families we support. Grants like these have a huge impact on the work we do, with £1,000 allowing us to run 14 activity-based workshops across 6 weeks across our different locations. The donation enables us to continue providing our vital support services to not just the person diagnosed with young onset dementia, but their carers, loved ones and young children. We can't thank you enough.
