Embrace (Bedford and District)

Registered charity number: 1156447
We are Embrace (formerly Bedford and District Cerebral Palsy Society); a small charity based in Bedfordshire, who have been established since 1954. Our mission is to provide unwavering support to families living with disabilities, sharing our knowledge and understanding to empower each individual we encounter along their unique journey.

What our donation will help fund

This £1,000 donation will fund the Little Music Makers session, a music therapy session for infants with complex disabilities and their carers. Some of our young participants are non-verbal, but music allows them to express themselves in ways they cannot otherwise do. As part of the session, the music therapist sings various familiar and improvised songs to motivate children to co-ordinate their movements to bang a drum, roll kick a ball, or reach for a hanging chime. The music is spontaneous and child-led, drawing awareness to and celebrating each child’s unique way of expressing themselves and supporting their development in communication skills, music & singing is great to help individuals vocalize and express themselves! The session also provides opportunities for families to develop relationships, whether between parent and child, the children interacting together, or parents connecting with one another. A safe environment is created for parents/carers to socialise, relax and feel less isolated.

At Embrace, we’re here to provide unwavering support to families living with disabilities, empowering each person we meet on their unique journey. Thanks to funding from Benefact, our Little Music Makers project will provide a music therapist to a group for pre-schoolers with complex physical disabilities. Through lively songs and soothing rhymes, these sessions not only energize or calm but also create joyful moments that let parents focus on simply enjoying time with their little ones. We know those early days can be filled with uncertainty, anxiety, and countless appointments. That’s why we’re also here with emotional and practical support through our Embrace Family Support Practitioner, helping families navigate the world of disability with confidence and care.
