The STAR Centre: Rape Crisis Ayrshire

Registered charity number: SC010678
The STAR Centre offers free and confidential support to anyone aged 13+ (women, girls, men, boys and those who identify as transgender or non-binary), of any ethnicity who has experienced any type of sexual violence at any time in their lives. We also work with local schools, colleges, universities and youth groups and local agencies educating about gender based violence. We are part of the Rape Crisis Scotland Network and work within the National Rape Crisis Service standards.

What our donation will help fund

Donations like this are vital in the running of our service. As a small charity covering a large and rural area, we can be stretched very thin. Sexual violence is an ever pressing issue, and the demand for services like ourselves is ever growing.

A lot of the regular funding we have is for specific roles, projects or contracts so having unrestricted funding is essential to the other running costs for our organisation. Supporting survivors of sexual violence goes beyond just the one-to-one talk-based support that our support workers offer. Donations like these make it more possible for us to continue to go above and beyond for the survivors engaging with our services. Money like this can help remove barriers for survivors engaging with us by removing travel costs. It can give us the ability to buy things that aid in recovery such as printed resources, self care products, books and grounding materials (like therapy putty or fidget toys).

Survivors of sexual violence deserve care and support, and your donation makes it all the more possible for us to do this.

The support and advocacy services we provide at The STAR Centre are lifesaving for people across our community. Our commitment to ending sexual violence is vital and as a small charity covering a large and rural area, our resources are constantly being stretched thin. Sexual violence is an ever pressing issue, and the demand for services like ourselves is ever growing. Donations like these are essential to our service. We are more than excited to receive this donation - especially at a time of year that can be a difficult time of year for everyone, including survivors of sexual violence. We thank everyone that has nominated us, and anyone who has ever donated to our charity.
