Pets As Therapy

Registered charity number: 1112194
Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a national charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people in communities across the UK. We strive to ensure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal. Our volunteers and their temperament-assessed pets visit establishments such as care homes, hospitals, hospices, schools and prisons, and bring smiles to many faces. People of all ages get the chance to chat to someone — and stroke a friendly dog or cat.

What our donation will help fund

With £1,000 of donated funds, Pets As Therapy can make a significant impact, facilitating over 2,200 beneficiary contacts, given the cost of just £0.45 per interaction. These contacts represent individual moments of joy, comfort, and companionship delivered to people in need. Whether it’s visiting patients in hospitals, residents in care homes, or children in schools, each contact provides therapeutic benefits through the gentle touch and unconditional love of pets.

This funding will help coordinate and support volunteers, ensuring pets are healthy and suitable for visits, training for handlers to maximize the impact of each interaction. The funds will also assist in administrative support, ensuring the smooth operation of visits and maintaining safety standards.

These interactions not only bring smiles but also aid in reducing stress, improving communication skills, and boosting emotional well-being. With £1,000, Pets As Therapy is supported to expand its reach, positively affecting scores of individuals across communities, making moments of companionship accessible to those who need it most. Each moment counts, adding up to a brighter day for many

I am delighted that Pets As Therapy will be receiving a donation of £1,000 through the Movement for Good 12 days of Christmas campaign. Donations of this kind help us to continue providing our volunteer visits, bringing comfort and joy to local communities across the UK. Everybody should have access to the companionship of a pet, a pet that brings smiles, relieves stress and acts as a non-judgmental listener. Thank you to everyone who voted for Pets As Therapy!
