Erskine Community Allotments SCIO

Registered charity number: SC052678
The allotments were established alongside the Lamont Farm Project in 1978 on land provided at that time by Renfrew District Council to provide ground for the growing of fruit and vegetables. There are 44 plots in total made up of 40 full size plots and 4 half size plots. The allotment site is entirely run by volunteers and over the years the allotments have changed from a mainly men only pastime to having more women and families, and also supports disabled groups etc. We applied to the OSCR to move to SCIO (Scottish Charitable Organisation) status which was granted in July 2023, meaning we could protect our allotment site along with an extended piece of ground through the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015: Part 9 (Allotments), via a Community Asset Transfer buy out from the local council. We are now in the process of this and will be able to expand the allotments to include another 24 growing spaces which will help with our growing waiting list for a space. We hope to commence the build in 2025.

What our donation will help fund

The donation helps us to kick off the work of the new extension earlier, now that planning permission has been granted, by allowing us to clear the area, put in a Terram weed control membrane, and lay type one stone for a base to prepare for the build of 24 raised beds, plus install a entry gate for security. This will give us more time to raise the other necessary funding required to complete the Project from fundraising efforts and grants.

We provide low cost plots to rent to local residents to grow vegetables, fruit and flowers in a semi-rural setting. The grant will enable us to start building an extension to the allotments to invite more residents to come and enjoy meeting up with other growers, encourage healthy eating and help mental health and wellbeing.
