CROW Recycling

Registered charity number: 1028076
Crow Recycling provides work placements for disabled people, mainly people with learning difficulties. We do this by running a number of social enterprises including confidential waste destruction, sale of animal bedding, processing used drinks cans, processing large second hand book donations and running a second hand arts and crafts materials shop. Our disabled volunteers gain skills such as operating machinery, safe manual handling and customer service. They also pick up social skills for work and have the opportunity to learn some customer service skills. Some of our volunteers move on to more demanding placements or a paid job while others are with us long term. Our Scrapstore, selling donated items for arts and crafts, diverts materials such as surplus fabric from soft furnishing companies away from landfill. The Scrapstore also makes crafting a more affordable hobby for our customers.

What our donation will help fund

The donation will go towards core costs which include insurance, energy bills and building maintenance. Having core costs grants allow us to feel confident about the future and make a long term commitment to the people in Coventry who need us. Particularly, core costs funding allows us to maintain, insure and heat our building. This is where our service users can feel safe when they come to volunteer, learn and experience the social aspects of the work place.

Core costs funding also allows us to launch projects such as our new food growing garden, where our volunteers with learning difficulties learn to grow fruit and vegetables.

We're really grateful for this donation which came as a lovely surprise. Our service users, mainly adults with learning difficulties, get so much out of being with us and of course we can only provide volunteering opportunities if we can also pay the insurance and heating bills. So grants we put towards core costs are particularly welcome. 2024 was the year we launched our gardening projects for our service users and grants like this help us feel confident about the year ahead.
