Little LifeSavers Charity was founded by Dr Barbara Stanley in West Sussex in 2016. The charity recruits volunteers and trains them to deliver its 70 minute, FREE, lifesaving skills session to schools around the UK (wherever we have pools of volunteers). The session is suitable for all school children in years 5-8.
The children learn how to carry out:
- Safe approach
- Hands only CPR on an adult
- Hands only CPR on a child
- The recovery position
It is the charity aim to educate children and equip and empower them with the knowledge they gain from our lifesaving skills workshop. With 80% of cardiac arrests happening at home and the UK’s survival rates for cardiac arrests which occur outside a medical setting, standing at a dismal 8%, we believe it is so important for everyone to know how to do CPR.
We have taught just over 19,000 children to date and we receive a wealth of positive feedback from the teachers and schools we visit telling us how valuable our session has been.
This £1,000 grant funding will make a huge amount of difference to our little charity. We don't charge the schools that we visit for our lifesaving skills session as we believe that the skills that we teach should be 'free for all' and we understand how much financial pressure schools are currently under.
Being a completely self-funded charity means that we need to raise our annual budget by applying for grants and relying on volunteer and community fundraising projects.
It currently costs us just over £5 to teach a child, so this £1,000 funding will enable us to teach 200 more children our lifesaving skills session without us having to worry about raising the funds for it. This means we can focus on doing what we do best which is teaching schoolchildren how to carry out effective hands only CPR and work towards achieving our main goal - to create a 'Nation of LifeSavers'.
We are absolutely thrilled to have received £1,000 grant funding from the Benefact Group's, Movement for Good '12 days of Giving' Charity Draw.

By the end of 2024, we will have taught just over 19,000 children. Two of the children we have taught have saved a life (as have a few of our volunteers). We believe everyone of every age should know how to deliver CPR so they can take action if ever they find themselves as a bystander to a medical emergency.
This grant funding will enable us to create 200 new 'Little LifeSavers', so, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU Benefact Group- this is such a super Christmas present for our little charity.
