Sulha Alliance CIO

Registered charity number: 1198855
The Sulha Alliance CIO is the only UK charity whose work solely focusses on supporting Afghan interpreters and other Locally Engaged Civilians (LECs), who worked for the British Army. We have successfully campaigned for their protection through resettlement to the UK from Afghanistan and continue to support the community with building their lives in the UK.

What our donation will help fund

The £1,000 will be utilised to support;
Community events that bring members of the Afghan interpreter community together. These events reduce isolation, and help build a sense of community and belonging. Activities are family friendly and are held in community centres across the country for greater reach A portion of the money will go towards out Hardship Fund which provides financial support to members of the Afghan interpreter community. Many are facing financial challenges, due to the rising cost of living. This fund is set up to directly and quickly assist with food, utilities, or emergency expenses, educational supplies.

The Movement for Good grant of £1000 will directly help the community we serve. Our Afghan interpreters worked alongside HM Forces at great personal risk. The work they did to support the UK government also put their families at risk. Sulha Alliance is a small charity with two part time employees working hard to help those resettled in the UK prosper. To do this, we help with offering signposting to services, offering support where possible with family reunification, housing, schooling and employment. The challenges the community face are enormous and £1000 goes along way in providing small social events such as chai and chat for the wives of Afghan interpreters or Eid events to support belonging and decrease isolation. Also, we will use this grant to help out the community with our Hardship Fund which supports members of the community who are experiencing financial distress.
