We are committed to working with the local authority and heritage organisations to secure a future for the Baths that celebrates its history and its purpose as a building to support the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors.

Carlisle's Turkish Baths are a rare example of a space where everyone is welcome, where you can meet and talk, or sit and read, all the while experiencing the aqua thermal benefits of cold water and heated rooms.

What our donation will help fund

The Benefact Group's donation was a massive boost after a difficult few months for our charity. The closure of the Baths last November was very difficult, especially for the longstanding users, many of whom have used the Turkish Baths to escape the stress of everyday life for decades. Without a clarity on future ownership, it is difficult for us to secure grant funding for further viability work, and the loss of a grant at the start of 2023 for exactly that reason was a huge blow.

The £1,000 award was therefore very timely. It has enabled us to reprint our information leaflet, book stalls at community events and hire an arts venue for a special fundraising event later this year.
